About the position
Teacher Assistant
The Teacher Assistant is supervised by the Lead Teacher and Early Childhood Director and follows program schedules, policies, and procedures established by the Early Childhood Director, Administrator, and LSAA School Board.
Responsibilities
What the role includes
- Assist the classroom Lead Teacher with the supervision, support, and management of a group of children.
- Initiate and encourage children’s daily activities and independence by helping prepare lessons provided by the Lead Teacher.
- Use a Christ-centered approach based on respect and love in interactions and discipline.
- Meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism.
- Remain objective when solving problems, consider multiple solutions, and seek input from those affected when appropriate.
- Assist with recording and reporting injuries, recordkeeping, and classroom observations while maintaining confidentiality.
- Maintain positive and respectful communication with parents.
- Prepare snacks using an established menu and promote learning during snack time.
- Clean and maintain snack and classroom areas in a sanitary and orderly manner.
- Assist with housekeeping tasks to keep the center and classrooms clean and sanitized.
- Maintain a professional personal appearance consistent with school policy.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service workshops, and school programs.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and parents.
- Assist the Lead Teacher, Early Childhood Director, and/or Administrator as needed.
Qualifications

- Previous childcare experience is not required, but is preferred.
- Minimum age: 16 years old.
- 18 years or older is preferred.
- Jr. Helpers may apply but must be at least 16 years old and hold a work permit.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience working with children.
- Three references are required.
